Revelstoke artist Claudia Simon, also known as Turbo Bambi, added a splash of colour to the Kamloops community by leading a street art workshop celebrating the Francophone communities of British Columbia.

Bambi, a French-Canadian artist based in Revelstoke, teamed up with the students of Kamloops Francophone High School earlier this month to create Bonjour, a mural of vibrant colours featuring its titular word and Francophone-inspired imagery. The piece is painted on the wall of 260 Fourth Avenue in Kamloops, B.C.

“Inspired by British Columbia’s breathtaking landscape, the mural incorporates iconic elements like the Eiffel Tower and the sugar maples of Quebec, symbolizing the coexistence of multiple francophone backgrounds within the province,” reads the press release announcing the mural. “Often represented in her artwork, Turbo Bambi’s cheerful characters come to life within the mural, bringing the powerful message of solidarity among francophone communities across BC.”

Magali Tejada, a teacher at Kamloops Francophone High School, initiated the collaboration with Bambi and organized the event with a team of teachers in support of the project. Bambi guided students in grades 7 to 9 in the creation of the Francophone-inspired mural, using her distinctive art style and sharing her painting techniques with the students.

Bambi has engaged in projects with Francophone schools and organizations in Revelstoke, Golden, Kamloops, and Kelowna.
